does it (this award) deserve for me?

In Cerita Lepas on August 25, 2009 at 9:18 pm

Several days ago, I received an email from Friendshid Ambassador Foundation (FAF). This is an international institute for a culture of peace, and also co-founders of the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, which annually held in New York. Every year, beside held youth assembly, this institute also choose several children in the world to receive an award named Youth Achievers Recognition Award. It honors 16-18 years old students who have significantly contributed to a cause and shown leadership in community service project, scientific research on sustainability, youth mobilization for an MDG related issue or other social development initiatives. Every candidate should nominated by an organization/ institution.

Last year, beyond the deadline of the application (and not recommended by an organization, means, nominated personally), I sent the application. Do you know the result? Of course, I didn’t make any achievement on it. This year, I asked Youth MDG Indoensia to give recommendation for my application. Then, although almost reaching the day of deadline, I still participated on this event.

Back to the email that I received. On that email, mentioned my name as one of the award recipients for this year. surprised? REALLY!!! OBVIOUSLY! I never imagine that i joined on the recipients of this year. I feel unappropriate to receive this award. What I’ve done since I was 10 years old, not really much, and haven’t influenced many people. I believe that many children in other places, who more deserve to get this. However, I still thankful for this, and believe that this is a good point for me, to contribute more for humanity. What I have done, would be better, if i could inspire more people to do this. Small action doesn’t mean nothing. I belive on this! Thanks for everyone who support me a lot. Especially for Bastian from Youth MDG Indonesia who recommended me. Hehe

P.S. After knowing about this news. I got a letter from UNFPA Indonesia on my capacity as Youth Advisory Panel on it’s UN agency. On that letter, stated Dr. Haque (UNFPA Indonedia Head Representative) glad toward this achievement, and would like to congratulates me. This is more surprise that I got!! haha

First of all, I’d like to say sorry for not updating this blog. Hehe. Actually, since I started the activities in my university (Yeah! Now, I’m not a student! But a university student!), I’ve been really busy with all orientation things. Like what other students did, they had orientation on university scale, faculty scale, and finished with major scale. I just finished the first two of them. I got many things; friends, spirit of life, life skills, etc. The most remarkable thing is I learn to be more respect with social.

On Faculty orientation, we divided into several groups. Each group consist of 10-12 people. But, unfortunately although, I have 12 people on the list, but just 7 people who actively involved. But, It’s okay! I enjoyed with them. We named this group with “Garuda 52″. Garuda like a symbol of spirit of nationalism. Then 52? that’s the lucky number that we got from the committee.  One of the task that we had, was creating a social project. We only had 1 day for discussing the project, including preparing the proposal. Finally, after debating a bit.. we selected going to hospital on independence day.

Every 17th August, Indonesia celebrates it’s Independence day. Usually, many people, especially the children celebrate the day through held some events. Such as art festival, traditional games, etc. The children are really enjoy the day. But, we realize, not all the children in this country can do the things as the others do. One of them is the hospitalized children.

That’s why, we went to one of hospital in Depok, West Java.  We shared the fun, gave them quiz, and of course, distributed the prize. Yeah. Maybe not more than 15 children who joined this event. But, we belive that, through being “act locally”, we did something!!!
